Historic Les Andelys in one day
Quick Facts
This itinerary takes you through the medieval and religious heritage of charming Les Andelys in Normandy. Begin with the magnificent Château Gaillard, Richard the Lionheart's fortress offering stunning Seine valley views, then explore two remarkable Gothic churches - Saint-Sauveur with its rare 17th-century Ingout organ and the cathedral-sized Collégiale Notre-Dame featuring spectacular 16th-century stained glass. Visit the Nicolas Poussin Museum to see the master's classical paintings and decorative arts, and stop by the legendary Sainte-Clotilde Fountain. Important: Château Gaillard and the museum are seasonal attractions (late March to early November only). The castle is closed Monday-Tuesday, while the museum closes Tuesdays. Plan this itinerary for Wednesday-Sunday during the season. Total walking distance is approximately 2.8 km.
