A relaxed day trip from Vernon to explore the medieval treasures of Gisors in Normandy. Visit the impressive 11th-century Château de Gisors, one of the finest Norman fortresses in Europe, with its octagonal keep and mysterious Templar graffiti. Continue to the Gothic Church of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais and the charming 15th-century Washhouse by the Epte River. The château is closed on Tuesdays and requires a guided tour (€9, book in advance). Early departure recommended.
