About Château d'Hermival

Château d'Hermival is a 16th-century estate in the Pays d'Auge region, extensively remodeled in the 18th century under Louis XV. The facades have been listed as a Historic Monument since 1927, featuring distinctive corner pavilions in checkerboard pink brick and cut stone. Originally owned by the noble Bosch family, it later passed to the Sisters of Bon Sauveur de Caen community before being renovated in 2019 as a private event venue. The château is not open for public tours but operates exclusively for private events such as weddings and corporate gatherings, with luxury guest accommodations for up to 18 people. The 2-hectare landscaped grounds border the Paquine river. Possible access during European Heritage Days in September – check the official Journées du Patrimoine program for confirmation.

Interesting Facts

The Bosch family, who owned the château for several generations, produced multiple Knights of the Order of Malta. François du Bosch also served as a royal counselor in the Court of Aydes, one of the highest financial courts in pre-revolutionary France.
The château spent 70 years as a religious property belonging to the Sisters of Bon Sauveur de Caen (1949-2019), a congregation founded in 1720 to care for people with mental illness and hearing impairments. The complete renovation in 2019 transformed it from a convent back into a secular residence.
