About Casino de Granville

The Casino de Granville is a historic seaside gaming establishment built in 1910-1911 by Parisian architect Auguste Bluysen for American millionaire Frank Jay Gould. The building features a distinctive blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture, with two belvedere turrets connected by a pergola evoking an Indian palace. Listed as a Monument Historique since 1992, the casino houses 100 slot machines, roulette and blackjack tables, and Boule 2000 gaming. The complex includes three restaurants with panoramic sea views, bars, and a 400-seat reception hall. Entry is free but requires valid ID and minimum age of 18. Extended hours on Thursday-Saturday until 4 AM; earlier closing on other days. Summer hours are extended daily until 4 AM.

Interesting Facts

The casino was financed by Frank Jay Gould, son of railroad tycoon Jay Gould, who invested heavily in French seaside resorts during the Belle Époque. Gould also developed casinos and hotels in Juan-les-Pins and Nice, transforming French Riviera and Normandy coastal tourism.
Architect Auguste Bluysen designed several of France's most notable casinos, including those in Le Touquet, Bagnoles-de-l'Orne, and Vittel. The Granville casino's distinctive Indian palace-inspired silhouette with twin belvedere towers was his signature approach to seaside resort architecture.
The casino is currently owned by Philippe Ginestet, founder of the Gifi discount retail chain and one of France's wealthiest entrepreneurs. He acquired the property in 2019 and completed a major renovation, relaunching it as Stelsia Casino de Granville in January 2020.
